The first event of the 2014-15 SEQ NACRA SUPER SERIES IS HUMPYBASH DETAILS CAN BE FOUND HERE
Humpybong Yacht Club is conducting its annual Humpybash Regatta again in 2014, but due to clashes with the power boat racing have decided to move the event to the third weekend in October as a permanent fixture. This year’s Bash is now on Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th of October.
Earlier this year over Easter, HYC successfully conducted a regatta as part of Sail Brisbane. We ran a number of State Championships under the Sail Brisbane banner, with an International Race Officer presiding and with contributions from Darling Point Sailing Squadron and Moreton Bay Boat Club. We obtained a major sponsor for the club in the form of the Belvedere Hotel as a direct result of the expansion of Sail Brisbane and due to the success of the regatta and the Belvedere’s involvement, we have been able to retain them as a major sponsor for the club.
This year’s Belvedere Humpybash will again see 6 races over the 2 days and we are expecting a good mixed fleet of small dinghy and catamaran sailors to attend. (We got approximately 70 entries in 2013). The International Contender sailors are using the Regatta as part of their South East Queensland Traveller series in the lead up to the Contender Nationals here at HYC in January 2015 and we expect a good turn out of F18’s in preparation for their Nationals here at HYC over the Australia Day weekend next January as well.
People travelling from afar may prefer to camp in the grounds, but there is also plenty of local accommodation if required.
The club will run a Saturday night BBQ, the canteen will be open across the weekend and the Belvedere will be offering discounts on its Cafe and Restaurant menus. On the Sunday afternoon the Belvedere will host the trophy presentation with a finger food function in one of their outdoor or indoor function areas (weather dependent). The presentation is included in the entry fee and this year we have streamlined our “back end” race management processes considerably as a result of our experience with Sail Brisbane, so that the regatta will run smoothly through to the presentation of trophies.
As part of streamlining our regatta management, only online entries will be accepted. Facilities will exist on the day to enter online, but entrants must have a current YA membership to enter. Please make every effort to enter beforehand though!
Any sailors with a live GPS Tracker or an iPhone with the TackTracker application installed will be welcome to have the device registered against this Regatta so that friends and family can see what is happening on the course from the Clubhouse, or even further away for those who can’t be there. The Belvedere may be displaying a “big screen” of the tracking during racing so that supporters can make use of their facilities during racing and still have some idea as to what is going on. If your class would like to have HYC provide a tracking solution for this event, please contact our Vice President, Glenn Dalton, as soon as possible (email@example.com or 0407 167 824).
If you have any questions about the regatta, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
HYC will again contribute towards hosting Sail Brisbane over Easter in 2015. If any of your members are interested in using Sail Brisbane to host their State or other Championships, the club would welcome your enquiries. Regardless, please consider sailing with us again next Easter so that you can take in the Festival of Sails and the atmosphere associated with the start of the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race as well.
We look forward to seeing some excellent racing on Bramble Bay at the Belvedere Humpybash in October.
